THE QUILT, Kathryn's new CD/book is here!!!

"The Quilt and the Poetry of Alabama Music," a book-CD combination paying tribute to the literary legacy of Alabama’s songwriters, is now available!  The book features stunning cover art (see above) by Alabama artist, Nall. Working with hall of fame guitarist Ricky Hirsch, Scheldt and Gaillard are completing work on “The Quilt and Other Song Stories,” an Americana album to accompany this book. The book and CD, soon to be available either separately or together, will be released December 1, 2012. The book, published with the support of The History Museum of Mobile, is an inaugural publication of Solomon & George, a new literary publisher in Auburn, AL. Kathryn  performed songs from "The Quilt" at Space 301 in Mobile on October 13 as a part of the Center for the Living Arts Series and will sing at Douglas Corner in Nashville on an Alabama Songwriters Celebration December 1st.

Since 2008, Scheldt and Gaillard have co-written four album’s worth of songs, including “The Last Shrimp Boat,” which anchors the soundtrack of the documentary, "In the Path of the Storms."

Meanwhile, “One Good Reason” continues to garner worldwide attention. Produced by Mike Severs, the album features such Nashville greats as Pat Severs (the Everly Brothers, Pirates of the Mississippi) on dobro and steel guitar; Byron House (Robert Plant’s Band of Joy) on stand-up bass; Catherine Marx (Reba McEntire, Kathy Mattea) on keyboards; John Gardner (the Dixie Chicks, Gretchen Peters) on drums; Mike Severs (Dolly Parton, the Rascals) on guitars; and Kathryn herself on rhythm guitar.

What a cool project!” says Nashville songwriter Marshall Chapman, author of They Came to Nashville.

The Quilt is Scheldt’s fourth CD featuring original songs co-written with Gaillard. The first three – “Southern Girl” in 2009, “Southern Wind” in 2010, and “One Good Reason” in 2011 – were recorded in Nashville. After the success of those albums, which included international airplay and her first appearance on the country charts, Scheldt returned for her latest CD to her deep southern roots and the Alabama sound of Rick Hirsch.

Recorded primarily in Hirsch’s Studio H2O in Dog River, AL, The Quilt features the work of Hirsch’s far-flung musical friends: guitarists Julz Parker of Australia, Tom Riepl of Germany, and Mike Severs of Nashville; background vocalists Claire Joseph, Skye and Gaelle Mievis of France and Belgium; and Alabama musicians Tom Morley on violin, Pete Wehner on drums, Jo Morris on bass, John Anthony and Sean Worrell on keyboards, and Rick Chancey on harmonica.

Hirsch, former guitarist for Greg Allman and a founding member of the southern rock band, Wet Willie, added a few guitar licks of his own in producing what may be Scheldt’s finest album to date. “Ricky really understands me as a singer and a songwriter,” said Scheldt. “He knew how to bring out the best in all of us.”
